The second week in October is National Fire Prevention Week. This weeks theme is:
“Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware – fire can happen anywhere.”
The Bolton Volunteer Fire Company educates the elementary students of the Bolton Central School on fire prevention. This includes coloring contests, handouts, and a new smoke detector battery for each student. During the week they are invited down to the firehouse and are given a chance to see the apparatus and equipment as well as learn about fire emergencies. They learn how to call 911 and what to do in an emergency, as well as stop, drop, and roll. The presentation concludes with a visit to the smoke trailer. The department borrow a RV from the West Glens Falls Fire Company that is set up as a home complete with working smoke detectors. The students are lead in to the trailer as simulated non-toxic smoke is fed into the trailer. Students then learn the importance of staying low and crawling out of the building.
This program is just one of the many community services, and civic sponsorship’s that we provide with donations made by the public.
