Another busy year for Bolton Vol. Fire Company. Over 140 calls for service for the year and one more month to go and with it probably comes some bad weather which will increase our call stats. The Bolton Volunteer Fire Company has begun an “Opioid Overdose Responder” program. We are the first non-EMS fire department in the state to carry and if necessary administer Narcan a.k.a. Naloxone to persons suffering from an opioid overdose. This life saving medication will be carried on several pieces of fire apparatus. This medication not only benefits the public but also firefighters who may be accidently exposed to a narcotic.

We are also glad to report that we have increased our membership roster with the addition of a couple new members. Josh Baker, Will Persons and Griffin Lamber are all currently taking the Interior Firefighting Operations class (IFO).

In October we responded to a reported structure fire on Federal Hill Road. A hard to locate and extinguish fire in the walls and ceiling of an old farm house. Mutual aid from several departments some as far away as Queensbury assisted in the suppression, salvage and overhaul stages. Water was supplied by drafting out of a nearby creek with it being shuttled to the scene by several tankers. Hard work by all involved helped prevent the spread of the fire and prevented the loss of the building as well as saving many pieces of furniture.

Training hours

In 2023 the members of the fire department accrued four hundred and fifty training hours. The is a combination of both in house weekly training and outside training that the members take on their own time. Most of the training hours for January and February (321 manhours) were spent on ice rescue training. With the mild winter and Lake George not freezing completly, but other local bodies of water freezing over it was imparative that we all become proficient in all aspects of ice and surface water rescue.
